Breakthrough Conversation Project

Expanding support for LGBTQ individuals and families one conversation at a time.
Our Family Coalition is thrilled to participate in the Breakthrough Conversations Project. Along with 18 other organizations in our state, we are training parents, educators, leaders, and allies to have conversations with their friends and family using research-based language about equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and families.
A Breakthrough Conversation is: A conversation that lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people or straight allies who have been trained on effective, research-based messages have with non-LGBT people in their lives (e.g., a family member, friend, neighbor, and colleague). They are often people who the LGBT or allied person knows or has reason to believe are conflicted about LGBT people and their role in society. Our overall goal is to help create a safer, kinder, and more inclusive world for our families and loved ones.
All volunteers who attend a Breakthrough Conversations Training are asked to track their conversations at this site, contributing valuable data to the project as we learn what works best to move conflicted folks around us. As a statewide coalition, we tracked over 900 conversations to date and will continue changing hearts and minds one conversation at a time!
