Welcoming Schools is an LGBT-inclusive approach to addressing family diversity, gender stereotyping and bullying and name-calling in K-5 learning environments. Welcoming Schools provides administrators, educators and parents/guardians with the resources necessary to create learning environments in which all learners are welcomed and respected.
The Welcoming Schools Guide offers tools, lessons and resources on embracing family diversity, avoiding gender stereotyping and ending bullying and name-calling. The guide is free with a committment to training, which OFC can provide
The Make It Better Project gives youth the tools they need to make their schools better now! Through our website and YouTube channel, youth and adults can work together to make schools safer for LGBT youth right now.
Columnist Dan Savage launched “It Gets Better,” a video message in response to recent youth suicides to tell LGBT youth that life gets better after high school. The Make It Better Project takes this one step further, giving youth the tools they need to make their lives better now.
LGBTQ Inclusive Elementary Schools Forum
Each year Our Family Coalition hosts two annual "LGBTQ Inclusive Elementary School Forums," one is in San Francisco and one in the East Bay during fall time.
Parents, teachers, and principals engage in conversations about creating, maintaining, and strengthening schools for all our children. These forums are a great opportunity to strategize about family diversity curriculum, LGBTQ policies, anti-bullying efforts, and gender issues. In the past, we've shared ways to impliment and try our lessons from Welcoming Schools. Please join us in this unique and exciting opportunity to make positive change in our schools.
Information and dates for upcoming School Forums will be posted on our calendar page.
