Programs
OFC is a vibrant organization at the forefront of work with LBGTQ headed families and our communities in California. At the foundation of our work are all the programs that provide such rich support to our families. Built from that is our work to realize institutional change, focused on making elementary schools more welcoming and inclusive, and building cultural competency for working with LGBTQ families. Finally, at the tip of the pyramid is our fierce policy and advocacy work to advance the equality of LGBTQ families. These three strands of our work inform and build on one another. And the strand that runs through it all is the leadership and activism of parents and allies working to bring about change. Our work not only improves the lives of the children of LGBTQ families, it makes California a safer and more respectful place for all children.
Policy and Advocacy
Social Justice: We strive to increase visibility and achieve justice and full equality for LGBTQ families. Along with our families, we work with local, state and national coalitions to advocate for change on issues relevant to our families, including marriage equality and healthcare reform.
Institutional Change
Welcoming & Inclusive Schools Program: We work with parents, teachers, administrators and others tocreate more welcoming schools for the children of LGBTQ headed households, address gender stereotypes, and break down anti-gay bias at an early age.
Cultural Competency for Providers: We offer trainings at medical settings and social service agencies to institutionalize a better understanding of LGBTQ families so that these professionals can better serve us.
Family Support
Social Events: Our Family Coalition hosts many events in both San Francisco and the East Bay where families can connect and have fun together.
Peer Support Groups: Our support groups provide a forum for LGBTQ individuals to meet, explore shared concerns, receive assistance from their peers, and learn from experts.
Parent Education: Our educational workshops provide support and resources on a range of topics, including legal rights and protections, family building, coming out to your children, marriage equality, talking with children about their origins, child development and more.
Information & Referrals: Our Family Coalition seeks to better serve LGBTQ headed families and prospective parents in the San Francisco Bay Area by connecting them with applicable and welcoming resources.
Fiscal Projects: Our Family Coalition is proud to be the fiscal sponsor of great projects that align with our mission. Currently, Our Family Coalition is the fiscal agent for Family Arts Bridge (FAB) Camp and Somos Familias.
