Sierra Sparks (née Loya) is a prospective parent and fundraising professional in San Francisco. She has devoted her career to advocating for and protecting marginalized communities, and has a passion for social justice work, community engagement, and working with and for the LGBTQ+ community.
She currently serves as the Associate Director of Development for Open Door Legal, a local legal aid non-profit working to alleviate poverty. Sierra has spent the last 5 years working in San Francisco as an advocate for economic and housing justice. She holds a BA in Religious Studies from the University of Alabama (where she previously served on the UA LGBTQ Alumni Association Board) and an MA in Religion, with a concentration in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Yale Divinity School.
Sierra has the lived experience of growing up in Queer family spaces. Although raised in Texas, she was born in the Bay Area to her lesbian moms who were original members of the early 90’s ‘Our Family parents’ group’ (which would later become Our Family
Coalition). She now lives in the Castro neighborhood of San Francisco with her wife.
She is excited to be joining the Our Family Coalition board to further support Queer joy and resilience for the LGBTQ+ community, and to support the families of OFC as Sierra and her wife embark on their own family-building journey.
